Knife-wielding ex-murderer sparks terror in Bexhill street attack
Darren Rogers, 45, a scaffolder from Eastchurch, Kent, has been sentenced at Lewes Crown Court after a chilling knife rampage in Bexhill. Rogers, already serving time for a deadly stabbing in 1999, was convicted in July of making threats to kill and possessing a knife.
Knife frenzy on Cantelupe Road
On 2 November 2019, Rogers was spotted sprinting along Cantelupe Road, brandishing a knife. He targeted a man jump-starting his van with help from his sister-in-law. Both victims scrambled into their vehicles, but Rogers relentlessly attacked the windows with the blade, shouting chilling threats.
Fear and panic in broad daylight
Despite the violent assault, Rogers failed to shatter the windows. The man managed to distract him by driving slowly away, with Rogers in hot pursuit, leaving the sister-in-law terrified on the street. Police were quickly alerted and arrested Rogers nearby on Bedford Avenue.
Out of control and dangerous
Detective Constable Nick Arthur of East Sussex CID said: “This sudden and violent attack was a traumatic experience for both victims and for at least one bystander, who gave valuable evidence. It was clear that Rogers was totally out of control at that point, and it is very fortunate that nobody was seriously hurt.”
Rogers initially claimed the man threatened him, but later refused to answer police questions. This latest violent episode highlights a chilling pattern from a man with a deadly past.
