Cop Convicted in Shocking Abuse Fraud Scam
Police Constable Amanda Aston, 43, has been found guilty of two counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of fraud by false representation after a three-week trial at Maidstone Crown Court.
False Abuse Claims Ruin Fellow Officer’s Life
Aston, based at Guildford police station, began a relationship with another officer in February 2017. During this time, she falsely claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse, accusing him of coercive and controlling behaviour.
Her bogus allegations led to the officer being arrested and charged. He even served two months in jail after breaching bail conditions by contacting Aston.
Truth Uncovered: Aston Lied to Police
Later evidence revealed that Aston deliberately withheld crucial information and gave false statements. This deception misled investigators and triggered the wrongful arrest and charge of her colleague.
Force Hits Back
Chief Superintendent Tom Budd said: “Criminal offences committed by our officers and staff simply cannot be condoned. Allegations against any of our officers or staff are always subject to a thorough investigation to ensure that those who do not meet the high standards expected of them in order to maintain public trust and confidence are dealt with swiftly and robustly.”
Aston is set to be sentenced on 22 May at Maidstone Crown Court.
