27-Year-Old Woman Found Collapsed Outside Care Home

Zahwa Mukhtar was discovered unconscious outside Chadwell House Residential Care Home on Chadwell Heath Lane around 5.30am on Saturday, 16 August. Despite emergency treatment, she tragically passed away at 6.21am.

A forensic post-mortem revealed the cause of death was a head injury, East London Coroner’s Court confirmed on 27 August.

Murder Investigation Launched, Multiple Arrests Made

Police have launched a murder probe following Zahwa’s death. A 35-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of murder, while three others were arrested for assisting an offender. All remain under investigation.

Police stress the attack seems to be an isolated incident but have increased officer presence in the area.

Detective Superintendent Brian Hobbs said: “Although we have now made arrests, local residents will continue to see an increased number of officers in and around the area while our investigative work is carried out. I would ask anyone who was in the area of Romford, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to speak to us.”

Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute to Zahwa

Zahwa, originally from Hackney, was remembered by her family as someone with “high aspirations” who brought warmth to everyone around her.

“Zahwa was a kind and loving person with high aspirations in life and her presence brought warmth to those around her. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. Zahwa’s tragic loss has left us heartbroken, and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.”

Inquest Opens; Full Hearing Set for 2026

Coroner Nadia Persaud formally opened the inquest into Zahwa’s death, stating it occurred under circumstances requiring further investigation.

A full inquest is provisionally scheduled for March 2026 but could be delayed pending criminal proceedings.
