A woman has been charged with arson after a fiery blaze ripped through a Chatham car park, damaging several vehicles including a luxury Jaguar.

Blaze Erupts at Carton House Car Park

The fire broke out just after midnight on Saturday 13 December 2025 at Carton House on New Road. A pile of rubbish was set alight, quickly sparking a fast-moving inferno that damaged a Jaguar and other cars in the parking lot.

Firefighters and Police Rush In

Kent Fire and Rescue Service raced to the scene alongside police patrols. They managed to douse the flames before the fire could cause even more damage.

Woman Arrested and Charged with Arson

Following a swift investigation, officers arrested 40-year-old Michelle Sutcliffe from Lester Road, Chatham on Friday 19 December. She has now been formally charged with arson.

Sutcliffe appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court and has been remanded to face Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 16 January.
