Middlesbrough Man Loses Final Bid to Scrap Child Rape Conviction
Ashif Nashaat, 44, has hit a brick wall after his last attempt to overturn his child rape conviction was crushed. The Middlesbrough man was slammed with an 18-year jail sentence following his conviction for two counts of attempted rape.
Horrific Crimes Against Young Victim
- Nashaat tried to rape a girl under 13.
- He struck again years later when she was over 16.
- The twisted offences were tried at Teesside Crown Court, where Nashaat denied all charges.
The victim, who must remain anonymous, expressed relief after the Court of Appeal shut Nashaat’s final escape route.
“The appeal process is torture to the victim and I’m just glad I can now move on and this is where it all ends. They’ve explained it’s the last time he could do it,” she said. “Six different judges have looked at the case now and nothing was found to be faulty in his conviction and sentence. He’s tried to get off with it and the judges have said, no that’s the truth, go back to jail and deal with it.”
Judge Slams Nashaat as Serial Sexual Offender
Sentencing Judge Howard Crowson didn’t hold back:
“I cannot regard you as a man with no similar offending – you were simply a man who by then had not been discovered to be a sexual offender.”
Nashaat was given 11 years for the attempted rape of the child, plus one year on extended licence, alongside eight years for the later attempted rape. On top of this, he was slapped with a spot on the Sex Offenders’ Register, a sexual harm prevention order, and a restraining order.
