An Afghan man stabbed a stranger in the neck with a bottle after a disagreement over a debt. Said Sadat, 19, was in Piccadilly Gardens when the victim approached him regarding payment of the debt on July 27, last year. He told Sadat he was paying the debt on behalf of his cousin, and handed him a £20 note. In response, Sadat ripped up the note in front of him and said: “I don’t need your money, I will sort you out.” He left and came back a short time later wielding a broken bottle, Manchester Crown Court heard. He then lashed out at the victim, causing a large wound to his neck. Sadat was arrested shortly after and the victim was rushed to hospital where he received emergency surgery for a 12cm wound to his neck. He was also treated for lacerations to his upper left arm and right hand. Sadat pleaded guilty to section 20 wounding on a basis that he did not have a knife, and instead used a broken bottle, said prosecutor Hayley Parkes. The court heard that Sadat was on bail at the time having been arrested for another attack in the city centre, along with two others. The trio had chased down two pals who were on a night out in Manchester city centre on June 15, 2024. Sadat, Mussab Amari and Waheedullah Paktiawal, had congregated with a large group near to the Victoria Statue in Piccadilly Gardens on June 16, 2024. Sadat, of Block Lane, Chadderton, Oldham, was jailed for three years and nine months for theft, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and section 20 wounding. Amari of Hollyhedge Road, Wythenshawe, was jailed for 12 months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Paktiawal, of Brinklow Close, Openshaw, was handed 18 month suspended for two years, 200 hours unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He previously pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and possess with intent to supply cannabis after officers caught him with a pick axe and several bags of the drug in September last year in the Piccadilly Gardens area. All three were also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the victims.
