Family Busted for £150K Bounce Back Loan Scam
Voice notes uncovered by the National Crime Agency have nailed Kashid Rashid for cooking the books to claim dodgy Bounce Back Loans. The illicit scheme bagged a hefty £150,000 during the Covid-19 crisis, lining Rashid’s family pockets.
Family Caught and Sentenced
Kashid Rashid, 53, from Ilford, wasn’t flying solo. His wife Noreen Malik, 46, nephew Rehaan Mohammed, 32, and brother Rizwan Haider, 61, all got slammed at Southwark Crown Court. After a five-week trial that ended on 28 November 2025, the whole clan was found guilty.
The Modus Operandi: How They Ripped Off the System
- Used three businesses to snatch three Bounce Back Loans totalling £150,000.
- Filed an additional fake loan claim for £50,000 – which got rejected.
- Faked tough pandemic hits and pumped up business figures to grab bigger loans.
- Diverted cash to family members, other controlled firms, then splurged on house renovations, private school fees, cars, and trailers.
Rashid even tried to snap up a company just to file another loan, offering £15,000 to the owner for using their business account — but was refused. Mohammed’s last attempt also failed when the business was found dormant.
Multiple Scams, Identity Hacks, and More Fraud Exposed
The NCA uncovered Rashid’s dizzying nine legal name changes in ten years to dodge credit checks. They also busted a second con involving Patric Ciwinski, 36, linked to a fake Universal Credit claim made under the name Robert Wright — no cash was paid out before the fraud was spotted.
Rashid himself tried to claim Universal Credit with a fake identity, lies about having a child, and a false address. He admitted to one count of fraud by false representation but denied other charges.
Harsh Justice: Jail Time and Bans Delivered
Judge HHJ Hale slammed the crew for a “systematic and repeated assault on the banks and the Bounce Back scheme” designed to aid the country during crisis.
- Kashid Rashid: 6½ years behind bars
- Rehaan Mohammed: 3 years in prison
- Noreen Malik & Rizwan Haider: 2-year suspended sentences each
- Patric Ciwinski: 12-month community order
Rashid, Mohammed, Malik, and Haider were all banned from being company directors for set periods, putting their business days firmly on hold.
