Ex-boss Jailed for Shocking Gun Assault Over Stolen Dirt Bikes
Boss Turns Violent Over Missing Bikes
Jamie Oakes, 37, landed behind bars for three-and-a-half years after he attacked a staff member with a pistol and shotgun. The terrifying ordeal happened after dirt bikes and quad bikes vanished from his property.
On the morning of May 23, 2023, Oakes accused an employee of theft. Instead of calling the cops, he took violent revenge – with help from a woman – turning a workplace dispute into a nightmare.
Violence and Threats at Dartford Property
The victim was dragged to the rear of Oakes’ Green Street Green Road property, where the boss and his accomplice threatened him and his family. Despite the threats, the employee managed a daring escape, fleeing to safety and alerting Kent Police.
Keys, Clothing, and Courtroom Conviction
Police later found 123 dirt bikes hidden in a cupboard, along with clothes fitting witnesses’ descriptions. At Woolwich Crown Court, Oakes was convicted on multiple charges:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
- Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear
- Two counts of possessing offensive weapons
Along with his prison sentence, Oakes was ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
Accomplice Receives Conditional Discharge
Charlotte Powell, 34, also involved in the assault, was charged with assault by beating and actual bodily harm. She received a two-year conditional discharge.
Detective Praises Victim’s Courage
“This was a violent and frightening incident. Jamie Oakes’ actions had a huge impact on the victim,” said Detective Constable Colin Page. “We commend the victim for coming forward and the officers for working together to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
