Fifth Suspect Nabbed in Shocking ATM Bomb Heists Across Hampshire and Surrey
A fifth man has been charged over a spate of ATM thefts that rocked Hampshire, Dorset, and Surrey. Explosions were used to blow up cash machines in a daring crime spree.
New Arrest: Jesse Matthews, 19, in Custody
Jesse Matthews, 19, from Bordon, faces serious charges including conspiracy to steal and causing explosions likely to endanger life. His crime spree allegedly ran from August 2019 to January 2020. Matthews was remanded in custody after appearing at Basingstoke Magistrates Court today.
Four Others Already Locked Up
Four men were previously arrested and charged with the same offences. They are:
- Cameron Chivers, 22, Southampton
- Colin Golding, 24, Farnborough
- Adam Jones, 29, Fareham
- David Hughes, 29, Hook
All four remain in custody, awaiting trial at Winchester Crown Court.
Crime Spree Hits 14 ATM Locations – Plus Three Burglaries
The charges link to 14 ATM blasts and three vehicle thefts. Targets ranged from local shop chains to banks across the region, including:

- Co-op, Godalming (Aug 31, 2019)
- Premier Store, Brockenhurst (Sept 3, 2019)
- Post Office, Eastleigh (Sept 3, 2019)
- Co-op, Fareham (Sept 9, 2019)
- Tesco Express, Eastleigh (Sept 11, 2019)
- Co-op, Southampton (Jan 20, 2020)
- Santander, Southampton (Jan 20, 2020)
- McColls, Bournemouth (Jan 27, 2020)
The thefts also include three high-value car burglaries:
- BMW X5 stolen in Southampton (Nov 25, 2019)
- Audi A5 stolen in Hedge End (Aug 26, 2019)
- Audi V8 Quattro stolen then recovered in Farnborough (July 6-7, 2019)
Two Innocents Cleared
A 33-year-old woman from Farnborough and a 25-year-old man from Botley were released with no further action.
This crackdown marks a major victory in tackling violent ATM robberies wreaking havoc across southern England.
