Kent Cops Nominated for Top Bravery Awards After Heroic Fire Rescue

Four Kent Police officers are in the running for the National Police Bravery Awards 2024. They risked their lives to save a vulnerable woman trapped in a blazing house during a mental health crisis.

Smoke, Flames, and Fearless Action

PCs Callum Tuckett and Nadia Shah, alongside two unnamed officers, rushed to the scene after a distress call revealed a woman had set her home on fire in an apparent suicide attempt. Thick smoke poured from the building, but they didn’t hesitate.

The officers charged into the burning house. Battling dense smoke and the woman’s agitated state, they quickly called for backup as flames spread.

Team Rescue and Community Care

A third PC arrived immediately, helping to carry the distressed woman through narrow corridors to safety. Meanwhile, they evacuated all other residents from the dangerous scene.

Outside, PCs Phillpot and Capozzi took over, providing medical aid and reassuring shaken neighbours.

High Praise from Police Chiefs

“Those officers who initially entered and supported subsequently by colleagues who followed, acted without hesitation and placed themselves in danger,” said Neil Mennie, Chair of the Kent Police Federation.

Kent Police Chief Constable Tim Smith added, “The officers showed immense bravery entering a burning building to rescue a vulnerable member of the public, risking their lives. Their swift and selfless actions undoubtedly saved lives and prevented further harm.”

The daring efforts of these Kent officers highlight true courage and dedication in protecting the public. Their bravery has rightly earned them a shot at the prestigious Police Bravery Awards.
