Teen Hero Takes Hammer-Wielding Burglar Down in Late-Night Pharmacy Raid
Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner honoured 18-year-old Jai Barfoot for his fearless actions during a terrifying break-in in Hastings.
Bravery in the Face of Danger
Jai confronted a hammer-armed man smashing into a local pharmacy in the dead of night. Without hesitation, he tackled and disarmed the suspect, risking his own safety to stop the crime.
Quick Thinking Leads to Conviction
Although the attacker briefly escaped, Jai’s quick wit saved the day. He recorded a vital video on his phone, giving police the evidence they needed. The burglar was caught, brought to court, and sentenced to 15 months behind bars.
Official Praise for Young Courage
“I absolutely commend Jai on his bravery. He did not hesitate to act when he saw a crime in action,” said CC Shiner. “Thanks to his swift actions, a weapon was secured and officers were able to safely apprehend the suspect.”
“We are committed to protecting communities and catching criminals, and it is right Jai has been recognised for helping us achieve this.”
