Eight Babies Named in Lucy Letby Murder Case

The tragic names of the eight babies who died have been confirmed at Warrington Magistrates Court this morning. Lucy Letby, 30, appeared via video link from Blacon police station in Chester. The little victims were all under one year old: Cemlyn Bennett, Joseph Johnson, Elsie McNall, Barney Gee, Daisy Parkin, Maddie Freed, Joseph Gelder, and Eli Gelder.

Letby Faces Eight Murder Charges and Ten Attempted Murder Counts

Letby is charged with eight counts of murder. She also faces 10 attempted murder charges, each involving babies under one year old, including Maddie Freed. The alleged crimes span from June 2015 to June 2016, with incidents occurring across that period—three in June 2015, and others in August, October, February 2016, and June 2016.

Brief Court Hearing Ends With Letby Remanded in Custody

The hearing lasted just 12 minutes. Letby only confirmed her name, date of birth, and Hereford home address. District Judge Nicholas Sanders imposed reporting restrictions on the surviving babies involved in the attempted murder charges. Letby was remanded in custody and will appear again today at Chester Crown Court.
