Police Called to Lenham Sex Assault – Hoax Sparks Full-Scale Response
Kent Police rushed to Lenham at 6.40pm on Thursday, June 16, after reports of a sexual assault. Officers, including police dog teams and the helicopter, scrambled to the scene. But it turned out to be a hoax.
Serious Investigation Underway
Kent Police confirmed an investigation is now live to track down whoever made the false call. The waste of vital emergency resources has sparked outrage.
Inspector Warns Against Dangerous Hoax Calls
Inspector Steve Kent of the Maidstone Community Safety Unit blasted the prank, saying:
“Making hoax calls to the emergency services puts others at risk who genuinely need assistance by diverting resources away from incidents where life is in danger or a crime is being committed.
He added:
“Making a false report is a serious matter that can lead to criminal charges. All calls to the Force Control Room are recorded and can be used as evidence in court.”
The police urge the public to think twice before dialing in a fake emergency – your prank could cost a life.
