Justice at Last: Trio Convicted for Brutal Iron Miah Murder in Tower Hamlets

After four years of intense investigation and courtroom battles, three men have been found guilty of murdering Iron Miah in Tower Hamlets. The Old Bailey handed down the verdict on Tuesday, 9 January, bringing a sense of closure to the victim’s family.

Burner Phones and False Leads: How Detectives Cracked the Case

Iron Miah, 40, died from a catastrophic brain injury after being attacked on his doorstep in Nelson Street, E1, on 19 November 2019. Detectives faced a tough challenge tracking communications through burner phones and wrestled with false intelligence supplied by a source who later turned out to be one of the killers.

Using cell site data and painstaking detective work, investigators pieced together crucial evidence that pinned the crime on Mohamed Moshaer Ali, Antonio Afflick-McLeod, and Aaron Campbell.

Callous Violence on Residential Streets

“Our streets are safer without these people at large,” said Detective Chief Inspector David Whellams, praising the team’s relentless efforts. He described the attack as deliberate and heartless, emphasising the hunt for justice in a residential area.

The trio will be sentenced on Tuesday, 16 January, following three trials that saw the murder squad overcome the suspects’ use of disposable phones meant to cover their tracks.

Shocking Attempts to Manipulate Justice

The prosecution revealed Mohamed Moshaer Ali had tried to manipulate a prison officer to lie to police, causing the collapse of the second trial back in 2022. Meanwhile, prison guard Wiktoria Bujko, 30, from HMP Belmarsh, admitted to perverting the course of justice after giving false information during the trials.

Despite never recovering the murder weapon or locating the getaway Volkswagen Polo, investigators uncovered a SIM card purchased the day before the murder that linked the suspects to the crime. Prior to the fatal shooting, Iron received ominous messages, including one after a call from Ali that read “Viewing done” — moments before the fatal attack.
