BBC’s New Thriller ‘The Rapture’ Promises Psychic Powers and Climate Catastrophe
Star-Studded Creative Team Behind Chilling New Drama
From the pen of Bryony Kimmings, known for Last Christmas, and Rebecca Manley, who penned episode four, comes the gripping new series The Rapture. It’s directed by Chanya Button, famed for World On Fire and an upcoming Doctor Who 60th anniversary special with David Tennant. The drama dives into dark psychological twists with a superstar team behind the scenes.
Paralysed Psychologist Meets Teen Psychic in Maximum Security
Ruth Madeley stars as Gabrielle Fox, a forensic psychologist recovering from a car accident that left her paralysed. She takes a tough new job inside a maximum security juvenile facility. There, she meets 16-year-old inmate Bethany Krall, convicted of brutally murdering her mother. Bethany claims she has psychic powers – but is she a manipulative psychopath or truly foreseeing a looming natural disaster tied to climate chaos?
Ruth Madeley & Creators Buzzing About The Rapture
Madeley said, “I’m thrilled to lead this epic series with BBC and Mammoth Screen. Liz Jensen’s novel hooked me, and Bryony Kimmings’ scripts are brilliantly inventive, funny, and scary. Gabs is such a rich, complex character – I can’t wait to bring her to life.”
“When I read The Rapture I immediately connected with these fallible, potty-mouthed, struggling female leads,” says writer Bryony Kimmings. “Their reluctant fight against climate change feels so real – that’s most of us! I can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with them on screen.”
Executive producers Tom Leggett and Damien Timmer added, “The Rapture is a dream project – Liz Jensen’s novel and Bryony’s scripts crackle with wit, danger, and urgent climate themes. Ruth Madeley as Gabs is the icing on the cake!”
Lindsay Salt of the BBC said, “We’re thrilled to bring this compelling novel to life with the brilliant Ruth Madeley front and centre. The Rapture blends a vital climate story with an emotional rollercoaster of a drama. Working with Mammoth Screen again is fantastic, and we can’t wait for viewers to get hooked.”
