Man Arrested After Violent Assault on Police in Oldham
A shocking attack unfolded in Oldham on Saturday, July 1, 2022, when a man assaulted three on-duty police officers. The officers had responded to a road traffic collision on Middleton Road involving two vehicles.
Crash Scene Turns Violent
Upon arrival, manchester-police/" title="Greater Manchester Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers found a woman in her 20s with minor injuries, who was rushed to hospital. While officers were gathering details about the crash, they were suddenly attacked by an individual.
Thankfully, the officers’ injuries were not serious, but the incident sent shockwaves through the local community.
26-Year-Old Held Over Assault on Emergency Workers
GMP quickly arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting emergency workers and obstructing a police constable. He has since been released on police bail as the investigation continues.
Police Speak Out on Appalling Attack
“This kind of behaviour towards our officers will not be tolerated,” warned Chief Inspector Lindsay Booth of GMP’s Oldham division. “We remain committed to protecting the public and upholding the law.”
