Three men have been charged with offences following a disturbance in Margate

Detectives from Kent Police investigating a serious collision in Garlinge, Kent, have charged a man following an incident that left three women requiring hospital treatment. The collision occurred at the junction of Garlinge High Street and Shottendane Road on Friday, May 24, 2024.

According to reports, a black Vauxhall Astra collided with a white Toyota Aygo. Prior to the collision, police officers had requested the Astra to stop, but it failed to comply. Subsequently, officers were authorised to pursue the vehicle.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene. Two women who were in the Toyota were transported to a London hospital, where they remain in a serious but stable condition. A third woman, also a passenger in the same car, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The 23-year-old man suspected to have been driving the Astra was arrested at the scene. He, too, received medical attention at a local hospital.

Joshua Clelford, residing on Argyle Avenue in Margate, faces the following charges:

  1. Causing Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving
  2. Using a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
  3. Driving While Otherwise in Accordance with a Licence

Clelford appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on May 27, 2024, where he was remanded. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 24, 2024, at Canterbury Crown Court.
