Siyabonga Dunga, a 39-year-old man from Sweet Street, Holbeck, Leeds, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a horrific sexual assault. Following a British Transport Police investigation known as Operation Milkwort, Dunga was found guilty of multiple offences, including rape, kidnap, administering a substance with intent, and committing an offence with the intention of committing a sexual offence.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 21, 2023. Dunga met the victim at the Back Room Bar in Leeds, where he gave her a drink. Shortly afterwards, she became disoriented and confused. Under the pretence of helping her, Dunga escorted her outside for fresh air. He then separated her from her friend by asking the friend to return to the club, claiming that the victim had left her phone inside. In reality, Dunga had the woman’s phone in his pocket.
Unable to walk unaided, the victim was taken to a nearby hotel by Dunga. CCTV footage from the hotel shows her collapsing and becoming unresponsive as Dunga dragged her to his room, where he carried out the rape.
Detective Constable Andy Jones, the investigating officer, described Dunga as a “dangerous and calculating sexual predator.” The victim, who has been left traumatised, bravely supported the investigation, insisting that such an incident should not happen to anyone else.
