Ten Fire Engines Battle Massive Warehouse Blaze in Belvedere
About 70 firefighters scrambled to tackle a fierce fire ripping through a warehouse on St Thomas Road, Belvedere. The single-storey building was half-devoured by flames, leaving extensive damage in its wake.
Half the Warehouse Ravaged by Flames, No Injuries Reported
Thankfully, no one has been hurt in the blaze. Fire crews worked urgently to save what they could, but half the warehouse suffered severe fire damage.
Firefighters Hold Ground as Smoke Hangs Over Belvedere
Station Commander Lee McCauley revealed the battle was still on as crews worked to snuff out the last flames.
“Crews made steady progress at the scene of the fire to bring it under control. A small part of the warehouse remains alight, and crews will stay at the scene into the evening.”
He warned locals to expect disruption:
“There are multiple road closures in place nearby, which are likely to cause disruption for hours. The fire is producing some smoke, so we urge people to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed if you live or work nearby.”
Major Fire Response and Investigation Underway
- The Brigade deployed a 32-metre turntable ladder as an observation tower to coordinate efforts.
- Fire control received the emergency call at 2:17pm and dispatched crews from Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Greenwich, Sidcup, and nearby stations without delay.
- The fire was brought under control by 6:08pm after relentless efforts.
The Fire Investigation Unit has launched a probe to uncover what sparked the devastating blaze.
