Maidstone Teens Reelin’ in a New Pastime to Curb Antisocial Behaviour
Teenagers in Maidstone are swapping trouble for tackle rods in a new fishing competition aimed at tackling antisocial behaviour in Downswood.
Police Hook Up with Community for Fishy Fun
PCSO Kirsty Greaves from the Maidstone Community Safety Unit has teamed up with Kent Police, Kent County Council’s Youth Hub, and local businesses to respond to residents’ worries about the lake by Mallards Way. The initiative offers a fresh, positive outlet for local youths.
Fish Fest: More Than Just a Day at the Lake
Dubbed Fish Fest, the project invites local children engaged with PCSO Greaves to join a weekend fishing event at Monks Lakes, Staplehurst, from 28-29 October 2023. Before casting their lines, participants attended two educational sessions at the Maidstone Youth Hub, learning the ropes of angling safely and responsibly.

PCSO Greaves on Making a Splash with Fish Fest
“Fish Fest aims to give young people a positive focus and distract them from trouble, especially those who feel there’s nothing to do,” said PCSO Greaves.
“Many local teens have a real passion for fishing. Through educational workshops, they’ll gain the skills and know-how to enjoy fishing safely and legally.”
“I’m confident they’ll make the most of this opportunity, thanks to the incredible support from local services and businesses, and put their new skills to good use on their next fishing trip.”
