Sussex Police Name and Shame Drink-Drivers in Brutal Winter Crackdown
Sussex Police have launched a fierce crackdown on drink-driving, arresting 233 motorists during last month’s Operation Limit. Among them were a construction worker, nurse, marine diver, and carpenter – all caught risking lives on the roads.
Horror Driving Blunders Caught on Camera
Officers have witnessed shocking stunts, including:
- Driving the wrong way down a one-way street with no headlights
- Crashing after a couple of pints from the pub post-work
- Being still over the limit after waking the next day
- Squandering taxi money on drinks, then crashing into trees
Notorious Offenders Revealed
Aaron Botting, 35, a construction worker from Eastbourne, was busted driving the wrong way down a one-way street in Brighton without headlights. He admitted to “a few shandies” and blew 58mcg in breath tests—well over the 35mcg legal limit. He got a one-year driving ban plus fines.
Conrad Eckersley, a 53-year-old nurse, was caught speeding erratically in Brighton after failing breath tests and refusing further samples. He also landed a year-long disqualification and hefty fines.
Adam Gower, a carpenter from Chichester, crashed his van after two pints and claimed he didn’t know he was over the limit. He was banned for a year and fined.
Lance Orton, 66, a marine diver from Littlehampton, admitted drinking whisky night before and forgetting he was still over the limit when driving. He faces a 20-month ban and over £1,700 in fines and costs.
Harry Yeo, 24, a steel worker, tore past police at 70mph in a 50 zone with a “glazed” look and tested positive for 87mcg. He was disqualified for 17 months and fined nearly £600.
Ben Quigley, 23, crashed after a night out in Chichester when he spent his taxi money on booze. He blew a whopping 90mcg and was banned for 23 months and ordered to do community service.
Sussex Police: Zero Tolerance on Drink-Driving
Superintendent Rachel Glenton said: “Our officers patrol the county 24/7, every day of the year. We want to catch offenders before someone is seriously harmed. The results show we could be anywhere at any time.”
