Cher Maximen, a 32-year-old mother, has been named as the victim of a stabbing that occurred during the ‘family day’ of the Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday, August 25. The incident, which took place while Ms Maximen was attending the event with her three-year-old daughter, family, and friends, has left her in a critical condition.

Ms Maximen was reportedly trying to intervene in a fight when she was stabbed in the groin. The attack caused her to suffer a cardiac arrest, and she remains in a coma, fighting for her life. According to reports presented at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Ms Maximen lost 20 units of blood, one of her lungs collapsed, and there is a possibility that her leg may need to be amputated.

The court also heard that Shakiel Thibou, one of three brothers charged in connection with the incident, faces charges of attempted murder, possession of a knife in a public place, and violent disorder. Shakiel Thibou, along with his brothers Sheldon Thibou, 24, and Shaeim Thibou, 21, appeared in court on Wednesday, August 28. Both Sheldon and Shaeim Thibou are charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker, with Sheldon additionally charged with possessing a stun gun.

During the hearing, all three brothers, dressed in grey tracksuits, confirmed their names, dates of birth, and addresses as they sat together in the dock. Shakiel and Sheldon Thibou, both of Hammersmith, west London, gave no indication of their pleas, while Shaeim Thibou, of Fulham, indicated a not-guilty plea.

District Judge John Zani denied bail for all three defendants, remanding them into custody. The brothers are scheduled to appear together for a hearing at the Old Bailey on September 25.

The violent incident has cast a shadow over the Notting Hill Carnival, particularly on what was meant to be a family-friendly day. The community and Ms Maximen’s loved ones are now anxiously awaiting further updates on her condition as she continues to receive treatment.
