German Shepherd Abandoned in Horrific State and Put Down

A German Shepherd was found abandoned in one of the worst conditions an RSPCA officer has ever seen – so badly neglected he had to be put to sleep to end his suffering.

Found Screaming in Agony

The poor dog was discovered on Sunday 5 March, unable to stand and crying out in pain. He had a huge testicular tumour and his face was so badly injured that the skin was torn off, leaving his jaw degloved and unable to close his mouth.

Dumped Beside Handsworth Cemetery

He was found lying on a pink blanket in a bush by Park Lane, close to Handsworth Cemetery on the north-west outskirts of the city. RSPCA rescue officer Cara Gibbon described the dog’s condition as “atrocious” and said it was the worst she had ever seen.

“We see animals who suffer horrendous cruelty and neglect every single day but this poor dog was in the worst condition I have ever seen. He was making such pitiful whimpering noises and screaming in pain. He was unable to stand so we know he’d been deliberately abandoned,” said Cara.

RSPCA Calls for Witnesses

The dog was dumped around 8am. The RSPCA is urging anyone who was in the area or has dashcam footage to come forward and help with their investigation.

“I was heartbroken to see someone had allowed a dog to suffer in this state and simply dumped him like rubbish when he was most in need of help and care,” Cara added.

“This is the result of prolonged neglect over time. I’m desperate to find out who was responsible for allowing him to get this way before dumping him without thought or consideration to his welfare.”
