Serial shoplifter lands six months behind bars after raiding Bexleyheath sweet shops
Sticky Fingers Strike Again
Ryan Brook, 35, of Cumbrian Avenue, has been jailed for six months after pinchings £320 worth of sweets and chocolate from two Bexleyheath stores. Brook appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 19 March, where he admitted two counts of theft.
He nabbed £110 of sweets from The Co-op on 16 January, then swiped £210 worth of chocolate from Asda on 3 February.
A Repeat Offender’s Sweet Tooth
Brook is no stranger to the law. His criminal record is littered with shoplifting convictions and multiple stints in prison. Just last February, he was jailed for three months for stealing a basket full of share bag sweets from Tesco Express.
Upon release, Brook wasted no time getting back to crime, stealing alcohol from Asda and laundry detergent from The Co-op in Bexleyheath. After another jail term in June 2024, he was back on the crime spree within weeks.
By mid-July, he’d stolen more food and drink from The Co-op in Bexleyheath, followed by £133 worth of alcohol from The Co-op in Sidcup in August, and £60 of meat from another Bexleyheath Co-op in October.
Justice Hits Back
Magistrates slammed Brook’s persistent offending and slapped him with a six-month jail term. They cited not just the value of stolen goods but also his blatant refusal to reform despite repeated arrests and prison stays.
Local shop staff and residents voiced their frustration, demanding tougher action to keep shops safe from repeat criminals like Brook.
“We can’t have people thinking they can just keep stealing and walking away,” said one upset shopper.
