Suspected Canterbury rapist released on bail

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate detained a 22-year-old man from Gillingham following an incident that took place during the early hours on Sunday 23 June 2019. A woman reported being raped in an alleyway near Stour Street sometime between midnight and 2am on Sunday morning by a man she met on Saturday evening. Officers have been carrying out enquiries, including the review of CCTV and forensic opportunities, in a number of places since the report including Gas Lane, Greyfriars Cottages Road and The Tannery. Anyone who witnessed anything in or around these areas between the stated times or has information that could assist Kent Police is asked to call 01303 289600 quoting reference 23-0196.
