Thanet Police Crack Down on Drug Crime in Margate
Thanet’s Community Safety Unit launched a blitz on drug use in Cliftonville and Margate, using both plain clothes and uniformed officers. Their target: cleaning up local streets plagued by spice and cannabis.
Drugs and Arrests: A Busy Day for Officers
- Officers seized nine bags of spice and two batches of cannabis.
- Four people received community resolutions for minor offences.
- A 33-year-old Margate man was arrested for assault and burglary, now on bail until 15 June.
- A 27-year-old Margate woman was charged with shoplifting, set to appear in court next month.
- A 24-year-old man caught with cannabis during a vehicle stop in Fort Crescent faces drug driving charges; bailed until 19 July.
- Another car was seized in Northdown Road after the driver was found without a licence or insurance and given a traffic offence report.
Message to Criminals: No Safe Haven in Thanet
Inspector Jim Woodward said: “Through intensive operations such as this, the neighbourhood teams focus on disrupting the use and sale of drugs and other criminality in the district. I hope it sends out the message to potential offenders that there is no easy place to be to break the law.”
