Man Found Dead in Dorset Alleyway: Three Charged with Murder and Robbery
Dorset Police launched a major investigation after a 56-year-old man was found dead in an alleyway off Shelbourne Road, Bournemouth. Michael Bastable, known as Shaun, was discovered unresponsive at 3.16pm on Friday 14 January 2022. Despite efforts from ambulance crews and officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four Arrested After Forensic Post-Mortem
A thorough investigation and forensic post-mortem revealed Mr Bastable died from internal injuries. Police arrested four suspects between 26 and 27 January. Three Bournemouth men – Hayden Johnson (28), Damien Johnson (30), and Dominic MacDonald (30) – have been charged with murder and robbery. They are set to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 31 January.
A 27-year-old woman initially arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation was released without charge. On 28 January, a 35-year-old Bournemouth woman was also arrested on suspicion of fraud but released under investigation as enquiries continue.
Police Stress Importance of Letting Justice Take Its Course
“Following a meticulous investigation, led by the Force’s Major Crime Investigation Team, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised the charges for murder and robbery,” Detective Superintendent Gavin Dudfield said.
“Mr Bastable’s family have been updated of this development and our thoughts remain with them. This matter is now subject to a court process and it would be entirely inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further. It is important that the justice system is allowed to follow its course.”
“I would like to remind the public that this matter is now the subject of active court proceedings and it is important to stress that there should be no commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”
