Bomb Squad Bungle: Two Men Jailed for Failed ATM Blast Attempts in Essex
Two blundering criminals have been locked up after Essex Police’s serious and organised crime unit foiled their plan to blow up ATMs outside banks in the Newlands Centre.
ATM Attack Goes Up in Smoke
Jamie Masters, 34, from Romford, and Wayne Lewis, 42, from Woodford Green, tried to smash their way into cash machines. But their explosive ambitions turned to nothing as they failed spectacularly to get a single penny.
Jail Time for Dangerous Dudes
- Masters was sentenced to six years and eight months behind bars.
- Lewis picked up a hefty six-year jail term.
Essex Police Praise Quick Action
Detective Inspector Frazer Low said: “More than anything else, the actions of Lewis and Masters were incredibly dangerous, to themselves, to anyone who was nearby and to the property they were targeting. “Neither had the knowledge or skills to control explosions and they put the safety of the public – and themselves – at significant risk. “Despite their actions, they left each scene without a penny so their actions really were in vain. “Thankfully, our team was able to act quickly to identify them, arrest them and build a case so overwhelming that they had very little option but to admit their guilt.”
Thanks to swift police work, these bungling bombers won’t be causing chaos anytime soon.
