Brutal Machete Attack in Dartford: Two Men Jailed
Grant Odejeh and Elias Spencer stabbed a man repeatedly while he lay helpless on the floor, leaving him with life-threatening injuries in a savage attack.
The terrifying assault happened on November 20, 2021, after Odejeh issued chilling threats in front of the victim’s family and friends at Temple Hill Square.
Threats Turn Deadly
Odejeh, clearly enraged, warned the victim: “You’re lucky I’m not doing you right now. I’m going to stab you and kill you.” Minutes later, he headed to the victim’s home with Spencer and a third man.
The group forced their way inside, armed with knives – including a machete. They chased the victim through the house until he tripped and fell, then launched a brutal stabbing spree.
The attack unfolded in front of the victim’s relative and their partner, who were left terrified and helpless.
Quick Police Action and Court Battles
Odejeh turned himself in at North Kent Police Station two days after the attack, followed by Spencer the next day. Both initially denied the charges at Maidstone Crown Court.
However, the trial proved damning. Odejeh, 20, from Dartford, was found guilty of intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife. Spencer, 23, from Forest Hill, faced the same charges plus perverting the course of justice for threatening a witness.
A third suspect caught at the scene faced no charges.
Harsh Sentences for Dangerous Offenders
Judge handed Odejeh a 10-year prison sentence on June 30, 2022. Spencer received 10 years and six months behind bars.
PC Scott Spedding of the County Line and Gang Team said: “There can be little doubt that Odejeh and Spencer are excessively violent and extremely dangerous offenders. They subjected the victim to a terrifying and frenzied assault, intent on causing the most harm possible. It is only through good fortune and quick thinking from his associates that the victim was not fatally wounded.”
