Elephant and Castle Woman Caught Shoplifting at TK Maxx
Dalyte Ochremciu, 35, from Harper Road, Elephant and Castle, pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to shoplifting from TK Maxx on Lombard Street near Fenchurch Street. The theft happened on April 25 and was caught on CCTV.
Foiled Foil Bag and Stolen Goods Found
Prosecutor Jonathan Bryan revealed Ochremciu swiped perfume, a handbag, and two pairs of trousers. She only returned one pair of trousers to staff, claiming that was all she had. Despite security trying to stop her, she left the store. Police later caught her, finding several stolen items hidden in a foil-lined bag.
Motivation and Troubled Past Revealed
“She admitted not paying for the items and planned to sell them to send money to her daughter in Ukraine,” said the prosecutor.
Ochremciu, who has a long history of drug addiction and nine prior theft convictions, confessed during police questioning. Her addiction clearly played a role in her criminal behaviour.
Magistrate Orders Drug Rehab with Community Sentence
The magistrate acknowledged the struggle to beat addiction, stressing that while support from the court and probation services is available, the onus is on Ochremciu to change.
She was handed a 12-month community order that includes a drug rehabilitation requirement. The court hopes the treatment will help her break free from crime and build a better future.
The magistrate warned of the harsh consequences of continued offending and urged Ochremciu to take control and seek vital help.
