Teen Beats Crime and Bags Top Award for Turning His Life Around

Seventeen-year-old Emanuele Raimondi has ditched a life of trouble and is now inspiring others to follow his lead. Facing the harsh reality of losing his family and freedom, Emanuele made a bold decision to change his path — and it’s paying off big time.

From Trouble to Triumph

After getting caught up with the wrong crowd, Emanuele’s mum, school, and teachers stepped in to help him steer clear of crime. His hard work earned him the prestigious Lyrico Steede Award, named after a Bulwell teenager tragically slain in 2018.

The award honours young people who’ve faced gang involvement, knife crime, or other criminal activity but have turned their lives around and now motivate others to do the same.

“I got caught up during school in a couple of things that weren’t supposed to happen,” Emanuele admitted.

“I decided to make a change for myself and to help others get out of the same mess I was in.”

“People need to think long-term rather than just the moment – that’s my advice to anyone in the situation I was in. There’s so much more to life than crime.”

“I was about to lose everything — my mum, my family, and freedom. I realised life has so much more potential.”

“Now I focus on school, basketball, and spending time with my family. Life is stress-free, and I’m loving it.”

“I plan to either play basketball professionally in Europe or become a nurse. I’ve seen too many affected by knives, and I want to help those people.”

Teachers and Family Applaud His New Path

Emanuele’s PE teacher, Suzanne Bointon, praised his huge turnaround.

“We saw a young man struggling to find his place but always had untapped potential. With support from his mum and us, he took control and made better choices.”

“We’re incredibly proud of the role model he’s become.”

Keishaye Steede, mother of Lyrico, personally chose Emanuele as this year’s award winner and will present it at the ceremony.

Nottinghamshire Police Celebrate Young Role Models

The awards are part of Nottinghamshire Police’s Stephen Lawrence Day celebrations, aiming to spotlight the county’s inspirational youth.

Romel Davis, a youth outreach worker with Nottinghamshire Police’s Citizens in Policing Department, founded the awards in 2021. He explained their importance:

“I work daily with young people who’ve gone down the wrong path, helping them get back on track.

“Emanuele’s story proves it’s possible to change your mindset and life. He’s a role model showing others there’s a better way.”
