British Dad Charged with Attempted Murder After Pool Attack on Daughter-in-Law in Florida
A British holidaymaker faces serious charges after a shocking poolside attack in Florida. Mark Raymond Gibbon, 62, from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, is accused of trying to drown his daughter-in-law during a heated family row at a rental home in Davenport.
Family Feud Turns Deadly in Florida Pool
On Sunday, August 3, Polk County deputies rushed to the Solterra Resort on Pine Tree Trail after reports of a disturbance around 5:19pm. Things took a violent turn when Gibbon allegedly shoved his 33-year-old daughter-in-law’s head underwater repeatedly, cutting off her air.
Remarkably, the victim’s nine-year-old daughter jumped into the pool to defend her mother. The attack only stopped when two nearby Ohio holidaymakers threatened to call the police, forcing Gibbon to back off.
Polk County Sheriff Slams Holidaymaker’s Rage
“It’s great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “Because Mr. Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.”
Legal Trouble Looms for Beaconsfield Man
Gibbon was arrested and booked into Polk County Jail. He now faces attempted second-degree murder and two counts of battery. The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Authorities have alerted child protection services due to the involvement of the young girl. The British Consulate in Miami confirmed they are assisting Gibbon’s family through the ordeal.
