Bearsted Tragedy: Couple Killed in Horrific Hit-and-Run
A beloved Bearsted couple were fatally struck while out walking their dog in a grisly crash that has rocked their local community. Thomas Corkery, 61, and his wife Susan, 68, died instantly after a black BMW SUV slammed into them on Thurnham Lane at around 1:40pm on Saturday, January 20.

Thomas, an accountant originally from Ireland, and Susan, a retired nurse born in Malta, were enjoying a peaceful afternoon stroll when tragedy struck. Their loyal pet also died in the horrific collision. The driver remained at the crash scene, but no arrests have been made as police launch a full investigation.
Inquest Reveals Devastating Details
At a hearing held in Maidstone’s Oakwood House, Assistant Coroner Sarah Clarke ruled Thomas Corkery died from catastrophic head injuries alongside multiple internal and external wounds caused by the vehicle collision. The inquest is adjourned pending further police inquiries. No date has been set to resume the proceedings.
