The man waited for the shoppers to clear before storming behind the counter. Armed with a knife, he threatened two store assistants and made off with around £50 from the till. Witnesses saw him flee the scene into a black car parked nearby on Cuthbert Road.
The getaway was chaotic — the crook drove the wrong way down the street as he escaped.

Detective Sergeant Rich Gibson told the press: “Fortunately this type of robbery is not common and the two store assistants were not injured, however we take this sort of incident extremely seriously.”
Officers have boosted patrols in the area and are hunting for clues. They’re urging anyone who saw the bold robber or the suspicious black car speeding the wrong way along Cuthbert Road to come forward immediately.
