Cop Dragged Along Road as Driver Fleeing Police in Dorset
A man has been arrested after a police officer was dragged along the road by a car trying to escape police in Dorset. The shocking incident happened while the ‘No Excuse’ roads policing team was out checking vehicles for insurance and tax in Bournemouth and Poole.
Officer Dragged During High-Speed Getaway
On Wednesday afternoon, the driver sped off as officers moved in for a stop. Backup was scrambled when the officer was caught and dragged a “short distance” behind the car. Luckily, the officer only suffered minor injuries to his right arm.
This grim scene echoes a tragedy from last August, when PC Harper, 28, was killed after also being dragged by a fleeing suspect in Thames Valley. Dorset Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing but said, “A person has been arrested and the officer is OK.”
Bournemouth Man Held on Multiple Charges
The arrested suspect is a 43-year-old man from Bournemouth. He faces charges including:
- Dangerous driving
- Assault on an emergency worker
- Failing to stop for police
- Driving without insurance
- Driving without a licence
‘No Excuse’ Team Battles Dangerous Roads
The ‘No Excuse’ team focuses on slashing serious road traffic collisions across Dorset. In recent days, they’ve:
- Attended several minor crashes
- Checked hundreds of vehicles
- Seized multiple cars for no insurance
- Handled breaches of COVID-19 rules
Police urge drivers to obey laws and steer clear of crime to keep Dorset’s roads safe.
