Blaze Rips Through Building Basement and Ducts
A fire broke out in the basement of a building, igniting the ducting system up to the fourth floor. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
Smoke and Flames Spread Fast
Station Commander Alan Allmark, on the scene, described the chaos: “There was a significant amount of smoke issuing from the basement when crews arrived.” The fire was rapidly spreading through the building’s ducting.
Firefighters Battle to Contain Flames
Crews worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control and stop it spreading to upper floors. Firefighters remained at the site all afternoon, dampening down hotspots.
Road Closures Cause Traffic Chaos
- The fire brigade received eight emergency calls about the blaze.
- The fire was reported at 12:31pm and contained by 1:37pm.
- Fire teams from Euston, Soho, Dowgate, Paddington, Lambeth, and nearby stations responded.
Several roads remain closed with heavy traffic delays. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
