A 14-year-old boy’s fatal stabbing on Barking Road, East London, has sparked a serious police probe. Fares Maatou was found with stab wounds on Friday, 23 April, but sadly died despite emergency efforts.

DCI Perry Benton, leading the Met’s murder investigation, thanked the local community in Newham for their support. He urged anyone with information to come forward, saying:
“Fares’s family are absolutely devastated. I have promised them we will bring those responsible to justice.”
“We’ve received good intel from locals already, but we need more. Every piece of information is vital to solving what happened on that horrific afternoon.”
“Three boys, aged 14 and 15, have been arrested and remain in custody. The investigation is moving fast, so expect more updates soon.”
