Coastguard Launches Hunt After Distress Beacon Sparks Alarm in Cornwall
The Falmouth Coastguard has issued a desperate plea for help after an emergency distress beacon was triggered around 1pm today, May 8, off the Cornwall coast. The unregistered EPIRB leaves rescuers in the dark with no way to contact the owner.
Massive Search Launched Along Cornish Coastline
With no sign if this was an accident or a real emergency, lifeboats have been sent out to scour the coastal stretch from Newquay all the way to Falmouth. Crews are combing the waters for anyone potentially in distress following the unexpected beacon activation.
Coastguard Urges Beacon Owner to Come Forward
Margaret Howell, Senior Maritime Operations Officer at HM Coastguard Falmouth, said: “We’re making an urgent appeal to find the owner of a beacon. If you know anyone who may have set one off in Cornwall, please contact us. Emergency crews are out searching and we would really like any information we can to help us in our search.”
The beacon’s HEX ID is 9D0E1D1A3000001. Anyone owning or knowing the owner of this device must report immediately. Even accidental activations should be reported to help direct search efforts effectively.
Anyone with information should call HM Coastguard Falmouth on 01326 317575 without delay. Time is critical to ensure safety and resolve this alarming situation swiftly.
