Two Women Nabbed for Three Purse Thefts in Sittingbourne
Police hunt two women after three purse snatchings rocked Sittingbourne on Tuesday, 28 February 2023. The incidents happened between 9am and 1pm at separate locations.
Crime Spree Hits Charity Shops and High Street
The victims were targeted in separate thefts at two charity shops — one in The Forum Shopping Centre and another in Roman Square — plus a store on the High Street. The robberies only came to light when the victims spotted their purses missing later on.
Suspects Spotted: Police Issue Description
Police Sergeant Ryan Chase of Swale’s Community Safety Unit said: “From our initial enquiries, we believe two women worked together to commit these three thefts. We are actively seeking further information to identify them.”
The pair are described as around 5’7” tall with medium builds, both wearing dark blue jeans and thigh-length dark coats. One wore a dark bobble hat and light-coloured face mask, the other had a light woolly hat and a chequered scarf covering her face.
Police Warn Shoppers: Keep Bags Close!
Sergeant Chase urged shoppers: “Never leave handbags unattended on prams, shopping trolleys, wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Always ensure bags are zipped up. Purse chains can help deter thieves, and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.”
