Kent Police Launch Best Bar None to Slam Down on Night-Time Crime

Kent Police, backed by the Dover District Community Safety Partnership, has rolled out the Best Bar None accreditation scheme. It sets tough safety standards for pubs, clubs, and bars to slash alcohol-fuelled crime and boost night-time safety.

Six Venues in Dover and Deal Nab Awards

At a ceremony held on 15 November 2022 at Dover District Council, six venues were honoured. The Duchess, The Eight Bells, The Cricketers, and The Elephant and Hind in Dover joined The Sir Norman Wisdom and Queen Street Tap in Deal as award winners.

The certificates were handed out by Dover District Commander Chief Inspector Paul Barrell and Cllr Oliver Richardson, Cabinet Member for Community and Chair of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership.

Police and Council Praise Safe Nightlife Efforts

“Kent Police is committed to protecting everyone in the county. We want women and girls to feel safe anywhere — out, at work or at home,” said Chief Inspector Barrell.

“Our work with partner agencies pushes bars and clubs to look after their customers and promote responsible socialising.

“Congratulations to the recognised venues. We urge others to join the scheme and help keep the district safe.”

Cllr Oliver Richardson added: “We’re proud to work with Kent Police to promote this scheme. It highlights community safety standards and assures everyone they can enjoy a safe night out.”

How Best Bar None Works

  • Supported by Dover Partnerships Against Crime (DPAC), the Home Office, and the drinks industry.
  • Businesses join voluntarily and collaborate with police, councils, and peers to reduce crime.
  • Venues must prove they excel in venue management, staff training, customer safety, and community service.
  • Accredited venues receive official Best Bar None signage to show their commitment to safety.
