Officers are seeking help to establish the movements of an elderly woman who was reported missing from the Croydon area and who later died after a collision near Tonbridge

At around 1.50pm on Tuesday 8 November 2022, patrols attended a location next to the A21 where a car was found overturned. The vehicle was in an area of trees after a slip road leading from Pembury Road, Tonbridge.

Eileen Johnston, aged 88, was declared deceased at the scene and her next of kin have been informed. An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

As part of their enquiries officers are also examining the circumstances relating to a report to the Metropolitan Police Service that Eileen had been missing from her home near Croydon. The car Eileen was driving, and which was found overturned next to the A21, was a silver Nissan Micra with a number plate starting LJ06.

Detective Inspector Lynn Wilczek, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘We are working to establish Eileen’s movements between Sunday 6 November and Tuesday 8 November and have been checking CCTV and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras in a number of locations, between her home and where her car was eventually found.

‘We are appealing to anyone who may have seen Eileen, or who thinks they may have seen her silver Nissan Micra to contact us. Please also check any dashcam you may have, as these may hold important footage.’

Anyone with information should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538, or email [email protected] quoting reference RY/MS/121/22.
