The M1 Motorway has been closed in both directions following a serious two vehicle collision. The motorway has been closed to all traffic between junction 12 Flitwick and junction 13 Milton Keynes South. Bedfordshire Roads Policing are on the scene of what is being classed a serious collision involving two vehicles and a number of casualties. It is understood that four people have been left with serious life changing injuries. The incident happened on the southbound carriage just after 2.30am this morning. Emergency service along with an air ambulance were sent to the scene. It is understood that it landed on the northbound carriageway. Drivers who have been trapped in the closure are slowly being turned around and a diversion route has been put in place. The motorway is likely to be closed until at least 10am whilst accident investigation work is carried out and a recovery operation takes place.
