Two Men Charged Over Maritime Incident Near Isle of Wight

Two men have been charged following a maritime security incident aboard the Nave Andromeda off the Isle of Wight on Sunday, 25 October. Matthew John Okorie, 25, and Sunday Sylvester, 22, face offences under Section 58 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 for conduct endangering ships.

Magistrates Court Appearance and Custody

Okorie and Sylvester appeared before Southampton Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody. Their next court hearing is scheduled for 29 January 2021 at Southampton Crown Court.

Five Others on Bail as Investigation Continues

Meanwhile, five other men arrested on suspicion of attempting to seize or control the ship by threats or force remain on police bail until 25 January 2021. They are currently held under Border Force powers as Hampshire Constabulary’s enquiry presses on.
