A Bedford man tried to dodge justice by chopping off his hair, shaving his beard, and ditching a distinctive jacket. But he slipped up big time – police spotted him wearing the same trainers in custody that he had on during the stabbing.
Brutal Attack Caught on CCTV
Mohammed Rekwet, 20, sparked trouble inside a Mill Street pub in the early hours of Sunday, 2 March 2025. The row escalated outside into a knife attack in a nearby alley, where Rekwet seriously wounded the victim. CCTV captured the chilling moment Rekwet lunged with the blade, leaving the victim badly hurt. After a public tip-off, officers tracked Rekwet back to his home.
Trainers Seal His Fate
Despite being interviewed and released on bail, Rekwet couldn’t shake the evidence. Footage from his home showed him returning still clad in the same clothes worn during the assault. Detectives zeroed in on his trainers. Matching the shoes worn at the scene to those he had on when arrested was the smoking gun.
Jail Time Delivered
Rekwet pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at Luton Crown Court. The judge sentenced him to two years and four months behind bars. His stylish trainers might have been a fashion statement, but they ended up as his downfall.
