Surrey Police Brave Storm to Honour Fallen Officers
Twenty-two Surrey police officers and staff took part in the gruelling Light the Lakes challenge last Friday. Battling fierce winds and rain, they climbed Green Crag in the Lake District to raise cash for a worthy cause.
Light the Lakes: A Tribute to the ‘Thin Blue Line’
Organised annually by Surrey Police, Light the Lakes sees participants scaling one of Cumbria’s 214 Wainwright peaks. Once at the summit, they light a blue flare or beacon overnight to remember police officers who lost their lives on duty. This year’s climb was up Green Crag, towering over 1,600 feet.

Chief Constable John Robins QPM DL said, “I am incredibly proud and grateful to all of the officers, staff and volunteers involved. The young volunteers gained valuable insight into personal responsibility and resilience outdoors. Everyone did incredibly well.”
He added, “COPS is such a worthy charity, providing vital emotional and physical support to families of officers who gave their lives serving our communities.”
Craig Nicholls QGM, Chair of West Yorkshire Police Federation, also applauded the event: “We were pleased to support and participate in this event and are very proud to support the amazing work of COPS.”
