Detective Superintendent Martin Smalley has confirmed the heartbreaking news: the body found yesterday afternoon in the Humber Estuary is that of Libby Squire, the 21-year-old student who vanished nearly seven weeks ago.
Heartbreak for Family as Details Unfold
“A post-mortem examination is underway, and formal identification has been confirmed,” said Detective Smalley. “Libby’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. We ask for their privacy during this incredibly distressing time.”
Relentless Search Ends in Tragedy
Libby was last seen just after midnight on Friday, 1 February, near Beverley Road and Haworth Street in Hull. Police launched an extensive, round-the-clock search involving detectives and officers, supported by the local community. “The people of Hull have shown tremendous support throughout,” Smalley added.
Investigation Ongoing, One Man Arrested
One man was arrested in connection to Libby’s disappearance and remains under investigation. Police say the investigation continues and they will provide updates as available. “Our priority is to support Libby’s family and bring them the answers they desperately need,” said Smalley.
