Plane Crash sparks Huge Search in English Channel
A two-seater P-28 plane vanished over the English Channel, triggering an urgent search operation. The light aircraft took off from Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield in Warwickshire on Saturday, heading for Le Touquet in northern France.
French Coastguard Leads Intense Hunt
The French Coastguard declared the plane’s disappearance “worrying” and launched a search that lasted all afternoon. They deployed a Falcon 50 aircraft, a helicopter, and the Abeille-Languedoc tug already at sea. British forces joined the hunt with their own aircraft.
Authorities also called on all vessels sailing through the area to keep a sharp eye out and report any sightings immediately.
Crash Confirmed in British Waters, No Sign of Occupants
French emergency services confirmed the plane crashed into British waters for reasons unknown. The British Coastguard coordinated the rescue, supported by French boats and aircraft.
“It crashed into British waters for an unknown reason. The British Coastguard launched an operation supported by French aircraft and boats including the Abeille-Languedoc (Languedoc Bee) tug, which has been chartered by the French Navy.”
As of 8.30pm French time on Saturday, no trace of the two occupants has been found, with the search ongoing.
