Brighton Man Charged with Sexual Assault and Drug Spiking

In Brighton, a man has been formally accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a young woman at a local hotel. The incident, which took place on the evening of Tuesday, 12 March, involved a woman in her late teens who experienced a sexual assault after being administered drugs by a man at the hotel.

Following her report to the authorities, an investigation was initiated, with the victim receiving support from specialist officers. Yousuf Dar, a 23-year-old man from Main Road, Romford, was apprehended on Saturday, 16 March. He faces several charges, including administering a substance with the intent to incapacitate, sexual assault, voyeurism, false imprisonment, and obstructing the course of justice.

Dar was presented before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 18 March, where he was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance at Lewes Crown Court scheduled for 15 April.

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard McDonagh said: “Sussex Police takes any reports of spiking extremely seriously and we will do all we can to support victims and bring perpetrators to justice.

“Alongside our partners, we will continue to put measures in place to identify and protect vulnerable people and help prevent people falling victim to spiking in the first place.

“If you or someone you know has been a victim of spiking, early reporting is key so they can be protected and any evidence gathered. Please tell a member of bar or security staff if you’re out, or always call 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
