Laura Kuenssberg Takes Over BBC’s Sunday Morning Politics Show

Laura Kuenssberg is set to become the new host of BBC’s flagship Sunday morning politics programme this September. The show will relaunch with a fresh new look, revamped title, updated theme music, and a tweaked format.

End of an Era, Start of a New One

Currently the BBC’s political editor, Laura will cover the local elections in May before stepping into her new role. She said, “I couldn’t be more delighted. For decades Sunday morning has been the moment to explore the events that shape us and to challenge and listen to our politicians. It’s an honour to take the chair for that conversation in the 2020s.”

BBC Bosses Praise New Host, Thank Outgoing Presenter

Jonathan Munro, Interim Director of BBC News, said, “Laura’s the perfect host for our flagship weekend politics show – she’s an engaging presenter and a razor-sharp political interviewer, and she knows exactly which questions audiences want answered.”

BBC Chief Content Officer 1 Moore added, “Laura’s one of the BBC’s biggest talents and I’m delighted she’s becoming the new face of Sunday mornings. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how she makes the show her own.”

Sophie Raworth, who currently hosts the show titled Sunday Morning, will continue until the programme pauses for the summer Parliamentary recess. Munro praised her, saying, “I’d like to thank Sophie Raworth for stepping in to present the show this year, alongside anchoring the BBC News bulletins at Six and Ten o’clock. She’s doing a fantastic job, ranging from robust interviews with presidents and prime ministers to moving reports on the flight from Ukraine.”

From Marr to Kuenssberg: A Political Legacy Continues

The politics show was previously known as The Andrew Marr Show, with Marr fronting the programme for 16 years before his departure in 2021. Before that, the slot was occupied by David Frost’s Breakfast with Frost, cementing Sunday mornings as a key political broadcast slot for decades.
