Thousands Left Dry as Sussex Water Crisis Hits Hard
Thousands across North Sussex face a nightmare – no running water. Residents have been forced to drive up to 8 miles just to collect bottled water amid a widespread outage.
Water Woes Stretch from Pease Pottage to Tunbridge Wells
The crisis blankets a vast area, from Pease Pottage in the west, through Crowborough in the east, and spilling into Tunbridge Wells, Kent. As of tonight, Crowborough’s 20,000 residents are completely without water, with no nearby water stations in sight.
Water bottle stations have been set up at key locations, including:
- Tesco Superstore, Woodgate Corner
- Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, TN2 4NE
- East Grinstead Rugby Football Club, The Gearon Pavilion, Saint Hill Road, RH19 4JU
But many affected areas like Crowborough and Pease Pottage remain high and dry, with locals forced on lengthy car journeys to collect water.
South East Water Apologises but Blames Freezing Weather
“We’re really sorry to customers in Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas that have experienced no water or low pressure,” said South East Water.
The company points to the cold snap causing a spike in pipe bursts and leaks underground, draining reservoirs and slashing supplies.
“We have crews working round the clock to find and fix leaks as fast as possible,” they added. “We’ve also sent tankers to pump water back into the system.”
They warn that demand is sky-high and urge residents to check lofts, airing cupboards, and outside taps for leaks.
Users Vent Fury Over Long Drives and Empty Shelves
Frustration is boiling over on social media, with residents slamming the ongoing chaos:
“My husband has been to Crawley, Horsham, Broadbridge Heath – all supermarkets are sold out,” one desperate local said.
“Suggesting Pease Pottage residents drive 30 minutes to fetch water is outrageous. No water, no clue when it’ll return,” fumed another.
“I haven’t been able to find bottled water anywhere in Crowborough,” added a third.
Residents from Handcross and Pease Pottage face 10-mile round trips to East Grinstead just to score bottled water.
